Wasteland Weekend: Burning Man Meets Mad Max

One of my highlights from this past month was attending what is known as "Mad Max mayhem in the So Cal desert" or as they officially call it - Wasteland Weekend. This 4 day post-apocalyptic Mad Max-style party (with a Burning Man flair) is held in the CA desert... and it’s like nothing I’ve ever attended. It allows lovers of the Mad Max movies to see what it’s really like to live in a society where civilization is crumbling. Sounds intense, but it was actually extremely enlightening and definitely a BLAST! Some even see the festival as a form of escapism and describe it as 'spiritual' and 'inspirational.' Attendees were decked out in costumes while riding in their Mad Max-style cars amongst the festival's elaborate compound sets. The fest featured live bands, DJs, fire dancers, stunt performers, burlesque shows and crazy/amazing vehicles from all over the country. Needless to say, I had such an incredible time getting out of my comfort zone and experiencing something new. Everyone was so friendly and open which made the experience even better. At times I couldn’t tell if we were on a movie set or preparing for survival. It was truly an unforgettable weekend!
