I recently ventured to Oak Canyon Park for the second annual Woogie Weekend festival… and I must say, it was a BLAST! The festival (from the brainchild of Los Angeles’ Do LaB), truly took everyone to a whimsical wonderland of music and celebration. Festival activities included a playground overflowing with sublime vibes, Slip n’ Slides, rejuvenating morning yoga sessions, water balloon fights, a pond complete with fish, and MORE! Attendees had the pleasure of lounging in the grass or swaying from one of the many hammocks scattered about the grounds as they embarked on a playful, progressive auditory journey into a vibrant soundscape. As frisbees punctured the skies, vendors lined the perimeter with healthy offerings that crossed the spectrum of desires – from vegan foods to healing crystals, attendees found themselves delightfully wrapped up in a trove of amazement.
In addition to the usual festivities, music proved to be the highlight of the weekend… with a stellar collection of house and techno. The two neon chromatic stages included a jewel-toned covered honeycomb hexagon structure and an industrial-piped jungle gym complete with foliage canvas laser light show. Needless to say, there was something for everyone to enjoy. From the electrifying afternoon performances (from acts such as Blond:ish, FVDM, Tâches, Dena Amy and Lee Reynolds) to global talent (like Do LaB’s own Jesse Wright, legendary Jon Hopkins, the elusive masked Claptone, visionary Damian Lazarus, and deep master of underground techno Oliver Huntemann) taking over nightfall… there was something for everyone to enjoy – my personal favorite being Sunday night’s ethereal performance from Kidnap followed by a tantalizing DJ set from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (T.E.E.D) who closed out a fanciful weekend of epic proportions.
If you ever have the opportunity to attend this festival, I urge you to take it! In the meantime, make sure to sign up for the official festival newsletter found on the Woogie Weekend website and like the Facebook page. Hope to see you out there next year!
